A Wolverhampton car dealer is hoping to raise cash for Compton Hospice by turning scrapped cars into cash, after a serious illness gave him a big wake-up call.
Onkar Sunner, who owns OSS Car Sales Ltd in Wednesfield Road, said though only 39, a serious bout of appendicitis left him thinking about how he would cope if he had a life-threatening illness, and his thoughts turned to Compton Hospice.
“Thankfully, I have never had to use them, but after being ill myself, it really made me think about what’s important to me, and how I can do more to help others,” he said.
Mr Sunner is offering a new car scrappage scheme, and has pledged to give Compton Hospice a donation for every car he scraps.
“I don’t care what condition the car is in – I will come and pick them up if they’re not driveable, and I will give a donation to Compton for every car I pick up and scrap,” he said.
“The higher the value I get for the car, the more I will be able to donate, so I hope that by offering a service to others, we can help generate some money for Compton, to allow them to offer help to people who really need it.”
Anyone with an old car to scrap is asked to call Mr Sunner on 07725 428283 to arrange to drop-off the vehicle, or have it collected if needed.
Simon Cater, fundraiser at Compton Hospice, said he was grateful to Mr Sunner for offering his support to Compton.
“Mr Sunner is hoping to offer a service to his community, and in turn, help out the hospice, which is commendable,” he said.
