If you are visiting York at the end of the month, the St Nicholas' Fayre sounds like its well-worth a visit - and you could look out for Carol and her team from the Park Inn by Radisson, who is helping out Santa.
Each year, the Minster Lions take Santa and his sleigh along to the event, to hand out sweets to the youngsters and help collect money to fund their charity work.
Staff from the Park Inn by Radisson – already a is a big supporter of the organisation, providing free meeting rooms for the Lions each month to help them organise their fundraising activities – hopes to offer more encouragement helping the Lions' collection.
The hotel in North Street has already had a visit from the sleigh back in August, as Minster members prepared for the host of events they attend throughout November and December to raise funds to help a wide range of organisations and individuals across York.
St Nicholas Fayre is always a highlight of the festive calendar in York, as the city comes alive with traders clad in Victorian costumes, carol singers, and wonderful Christmas aromas, sights and sounds. It attracts many thousands of visitors, making it one of the biggest events for the Lions’ collectors.
“I know the city is swamped with tourists and residents alike over the Fayre weekend, which is great news for the Lions, as Santa and his sleigh are always a huge attraction,” said Carol Ward, marketing co-ordinator at the Park Inn by Radisson.
“As we see it, the more hands they have helping, the more money they are able to collect, so we are happy to pitch in.
“We’re sending along staff during the hours around lunchtime, which are the busiest times, and we really hope we can help them raise even more money than in previous years.”
Hotel staff will join the Minster Lions collectors on Saturday, November 26, from around 11am, as the crowds start to pour through Kings Square.
Last year, sleigh appearances during November and December raised more than £4,000. Minster Lions president Alec Williamson is confident they will do as well this year, and said he was grateful for the extra help at such a busy time.
“The Fayre is one of the highlights of the year, and gives our Christmas collection a real boost, so we are delighted that staff from the Park Inn have offered to lend a hand,” he said.
