Compton Hospice voucher booklet offers up to £250 of savings

Shoppers can save up to £250 from a range of 19 outlets across Wolverhampton with a new voucher booklet from Compton Hospice.

The £5 wallet-sized booklet includes money-off vouchers for restaurants, shops, beauty outlets, businesses and sport venues across the city. The vouchers include up to 25 per cent off or up to a £20 reduction, with all the proceeds going to the Wolverhampton charity.

The offers include any size pizza for £9.99 from Domino’s Pizza, 20 per cent off at JJB Sports, a free game at Strykers bowling alley, 15 per cent off at Grace and Glory fashion boutique, £10 off at Toni and Guy hairdressers and £15 off all design services at The Studio design and print.

China offers great-looking deal to Midlands beauty business

A Shropshire beauty expert has secured a £100 million contract to supply products and treatments to be sold in China, creating up to 3,500 jobs.

Deborah Mitchell of Heaven has signed a 10-year distribution deal to supply 2,500 Chinese stores and salons, and included in the deal is the employment of at least one Heaven-trained therapist from the UK in each store.

To help facilitate this, Ms Mitchell began work on a £120,000 refurbishment of her Shifnal salon this week, which will include a full upgrade, and a new training facility, where the 3,500 qualified therapists will spend three months learning all about Heaven treatments and products before heading to the Far East.

Future looking bright for Stafford opticians

TWO Stafford opticians are looking forward to expanding their business with the opening of a second practice, in Gnosall.

Optometrist Jan Goodwin and Sarah Edge, dispensing optician, have now bought the former Gnosall Optometrists  in Station Road following the retirement of Peter Mincher-Lockett.

Mrs Edge and Mrs Goodwin bought Mr Mincher-Lockett’s Stafford practice in 2006, and have made significant improvements there, including extending into neighbouring premises, and a total refurbishment, as well as investing in some of the latest technology in the optometry industry.

Leading engineering firm puts faith in a strong North West economy

A LEADING engineering firm has put its faith in the strength of the Manchester and the North West economy by appointing its first dedicated sales representative for the region.

Midlands based Laser Process has appointed Craig Dwyer as its rep for the North West. The firm has already seen a doubling in interest from business in the region since he took up his post in April.

The laser cutting subcontractors based in Cannock, Staffordshire, is one of the top five firms in the UK in its field, specialising in precision cutting of all types of metal for a wide range of engineering applications. The business, which employs 36 staff and has a multi-million pound turnover, celebrated its 20^th anniversary last year.

Dannii’s inspiration sparks soothing new candle range

WHEN Dannii Minogue couldn’t find a candle for an allergy-stricken friend, she gave her trusted beautician the idea for a red hot new product.

Thanks to the ever-stylish Aussie singer and X Factor judge, Heaven’s Breath range of candles was born.

Dannii has been a client of Deborah Mitchell at Heaven for a number of years, and turned to her for help when she was looking for some candles to give as a gift to a friend, who is allergic to paraffin and therefore cannot burn ordinary candles.

Deborah did not sell any herself in her range of mainly organic beauty products, so came up with the idea of making her own, using only natural ingredients which would allow people with breathing conditions to use them.

The result is her Heaven Breath candles, which are made from 100% natural ingredients.

Secret Millionaire charity set to enjoy York day trip

SUPPORTERS of a Yorkshire charity, who were the lucky recipients of a six-figure sum on TV’s A Secret Millionaire, are set to be given the VIP treatment by a York hotel on a day trip to the city.

The Park Inn by Radisson York is providing free lunch and drinks for more than 50 volunteers and those helped by the Rainbow’s End project when they visit the city on Sunday May 15.

The charity, based in Burngreave in Sheffield, was handed a six-figure cheque by millionaire interior designer Simrin Choudhrie, who had been secretly working as a volunteer in the charity’s shop as part of the Channel 4 TV show. She also gave £3,000 so the charity’s workers could have a day out, with charity organiser Yvonne Hayes deciding on a trip to York.

Cancer survivor wins £3,500 hotel royal wedding prize

 
 A husband-to-be who has battled cancer is set to be treated like a king after he and his fiancée won a Black Country hotel’s royal wedding competition.

Jonathan McGee, 41 and his wife-to-be Laura Moores, 27, are dedicating the prize from Merry Hill’s four-star Copthorne Hotel, to the dozens of family and friends who have helped him fight against cancer.

The wedding will also boost two Midlands charities with Compton Hospice sharing a slice of the bar’s takings and Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s oncology unit along with the hospice benefiting from donations in place of gifts.

Marathon car pull for Compton Hospice

When a charity car-pull is organised it's usually for a few hundred metres at most. So the 10-mile car pull organised by staff at a car dealership for Compton Hospice ranks as a real marathon.

The staff at Brindley Honda in West Bromwich, pictured left, are going to be hauling the near one-ton Honda Jazz car across the Black Country on Saturday September 11.

The group of 20 staff will take it in turns in teams of six to pull the car from Tipton to Compton Hospice stopping off at Queen's Square in Wolverhampton at about 2pm, they'll have collections tins out all the way.

Beacon Radio hosts prepare marathon effort for Compton Hospice

BEST of luck to Beacon Radio’s breakfast hosts Fresh and Jo who have thrown their backing behind Compton Hospice's Raise the Roof appeal by taking on a 55 mile walk across the Black Country.

The popular pair hope to cover 11 miles a day on behalf of the hospice which needs to raise £1 million as part of its major refurbishment works.

And the challenge got even steeper at the launch of the appeal, as Jo had an announcement of her own – she is expecting a baby.
